LAMB #289 - I Think, Therefore I Review.

Site Name: I Think, Therefore I Review.
Categories: [Editor's Note: Take a deep breath - this profile wins the award for longest answer to the "Categories" question. By far. Not that this is a bad thing, necessarily.] Writing as myself and under a pen name for saucier material, I post reviews of films, television, music, books, miniseries, and documentaries in most all genres. Some series I've done like like Bond, Sharpe, or The Bee Gees (hee) take on a sense of humor as I accumulate readers for the ride who are familiar with my style and outlook on the task at hand. Occasionally I'll do group reviews of more than one film or television season at a time or do a versus format or a collection of hits or misses. Sometimes I'm more serious or harsh if my dislike is greater or if the topic is a more serious one. If I review something I have on DVD, I also like to get a few screen captures involved as well. I'm not big on romantic or big popular recent pictures. I prefer older pictures, maintaining the classics, and informing folks of smaller or foreign pictures they may not know about. I'm more interested in genre, too- action, sf, fantasy, horror. Around the holidays I am get theme-ish or streaky, reviewing more horror at Halloween or Christmas movies in December. There's some quizzes and fan listings for fun, too. Though there's a hefty amount of music and books so far, movies and television are most prevalent at ITTIR-I guess for the faster turn around!
Rating: I think we fall in the PG to PG 13 range. Though I've reviewed many R or naughtier pictures, my screen captures and language are for the most part clean. I also specifically mention if a topic is 'kid friendly' or 'not for kids and prudes' and label my tags as such, too.
What is the main focus of your site?
Mainly, I like books, music, film, and television; and if I have something to say about a topic that I think is of interest to others, I like having one easy place for it all. Since there are so many bad choices out there, I like thinking I save people time and money and help them find the shows and books they enjoy. I try not to fill everything up with a lot of distracting extras. ITTIR is more about my opinion and ultimately the readers not bling. Sometimes my reviews can get longer at over 1,000 words, so I stick to easy reading color schemes, too. A little bit that goes a long way.
What are your blogging goals, personally and/or professionally? In other words, what, if anything, are you trying to get out your blog?
Initially I sold some reviews a few years ago online and in print, but there's little money in sales or all the pay to content and such. I quite enjoy having freedom to speak my mind anyway more than gas money. I like the exposure and writing practice of reviews and commentary, and blogging is a way to keep sharp while relaxing from my heavier professional writing projects. Eventually, I'd like to have enough credits to join the Online Film Critics Society. A somewhat silly or small goal to some, but I think it would be a nice accomplishment for my work. (I don't know that it matters here, but I am a member of EPIC.)
Do you prefer an interactive community for your blog or are you the teacher and your readers are the students?
Personally, I really love and get excited when people comment about good movie memories or even if they totally disagree with me. They are reading, and reading what I wrote, and taking something away from it, awesome! I seek to inform, inspire, and entertain, and activity is success!
How long have you been movie blogging for, and how frequent do you post updates to your site?
This site has been active since late 2007. Previously I tried other formats that didn't work and my articles were scattered to other sites online. I try to keep the tags and labels in a nice searchable format for folks, and stick to a semi regular schedule. Generally I post at minimum once a week or baseline 5 posts a month. If I'm on a streak, sometimes that can double up to 12 posts a month or more, so it averages to around 8 or 9 posts a month. Usually I post late on a Tuesday, my 'non fiction day' or in the overnight hours.
Name up to three of your favorite movies (and no more).
The Searchers (oldie), Return of the King (newbie), Memento (cultish).
