Hello once again and welcome to Trailer Talk Thursday. I'm Travis McCollum of the Movie Encyclopedia and I'm here to bring you the latest trailers to hit the silver screen.
As an avid fan of both sci fi films as well as monster/horror films it shouldn't be a surprise to anyone that I love Predator. The film not only cemented Arnold Schwarzenegger as a bonified action hero but it also evolved the monster movie genre and introduced us to one of THE most badass characters ever created: the Predator. Oh and this too...
The Predators were awesome though. With their Bob Marley dreads, sharp blades sticking out of their arms, their self destruct devices, metal plated armor, their almost gentlemenly approach to dueling (if you watched the end of Predator you know what I mean), their steal devices and shoulder rockets, they made every slasher villain or any other monster look weak compared to them. They are also buddies with Danny Glover and great dancers
Try getting THAT out of your head...your welcome.
Anyway after two great movies the series decided to take a break, or at least in the film world, until the mid 2000s. In that between films a great rivalry was started between the alien and the predator. Books were written, comics were drawn and video games were created. It got so popular that Fox demanded that a movie be made. Needless to say it was total garbage compared to their original source material. Not even Lance Henrickson could save it. It didn't help that a sequel was made a few years later that was WAY worse.
But hope has arrived in the form of Robert Rodriguez. This action paced director is already busy with the upcoming Machete but he's also in charge of the new Predators movie coming out as well. He's been releasing sneak peeks over at trailer addict but now thanks to IGN we got an exclusive teaser trailer for the new movie. Take a look:
So what do I think? Well despite some odd actor decisions (Adrian Brody and Topher Grace as badass killers? Yeah...no. Eric and Halle Berry kisser are not badasses) it actually looks pretty good. The tension looks good, the Predator planet looks awesome, the new Predator designs look good and the action, from what we can see, looks good. There really isn't a whole lot to go off of but it does look to be a pretty good movie from what I can see. Let's hope Rodriguez can make this series as good as it once was.
But that's just my opinion. Tell me what you think down below in the comments and I will see you all next week on Trailer Talk Thursday.
