Hey everybody! Travis from The Movie Encyclopedia here with another edition of Trailer Talk Thursday, where I bring you the latest trailers to hit the silver screen.
Well it's been a bit dry for new trailers lately but there has been two that have come out lately that have caught my eye and I definitely think they are worth talking about.
First up...the highly anticipated Battle: Los Angeles-
This movie has garnered tons of buzz already, mostly thanks to it's cryptic posters and even more cryptic trailers (up until this one at least). Up until now we've gotten slideshows, flickering shots of battle and a glimpse, but never full look, at the aliens. Little is known about the story except that it is inspired by the Great Los Angeles Air Raid (also titled Battle of Los Angeles) and it has to do with aliens invading Earth. And really I think that that has been good for the film. If too much got out too soon, people might lose interest in the film. But if you keep teasing them and then give them a trailer that explains more once you get closer to the release date, then your golden. And that's what they've done.In this trailer we see the city of LA being bombarded with meteors that have strange creatures coming out of them and attacking humans. We meet two marines, played by Aaron Eckhart and Michelle Rodriguez who are forced into the middle of this conflict as they hunt and destroy aliens while looking for survivors of the initial attack. And that's about it...and honestly that's good enough for me. Alien invasion films, at least in my opinion, don't really need a giant story unless they are trying to send a message a la "District 9." This is a sci-fi action movie at heart and most of the trailer shows action which is awesome. I am glad though that they kept "Sun's Gone Dim" by Johann Johannsson from the previous trailers because it really sets an eerie and tense mood which only makes the trailer better. Overall I'm looking forward to this film and hopefully it's as good as it's trailer.

Next up is The Way Back-
The Way Back is the latest film from Truman Show director Peter Weir and is based on the book "The Long Walk" by Slawomir Rawicz which tells the story of how he and six other prisoners escape from a Gulag prison and make their way to safety in India. It's a long and perilous journey that took 11 months and thousands and thousands of miles and the book has been an international bestseller since it's release in 1956. Now 54 years later we are getting the film adaptation and it stars Ed Harris, Jim Sturgess, Saoirse Ronan, Colin Farrel and Mark Strong. It's already out in Los Angeles but it will be released everywhere at the end of January. From the trailer alone it looks like an amazing movie with some great performances across the board. I love these kinds of movies and I think that it will be one that a lot of people will enjoy.
But that's just me. Here is the trailer-
Well that will do it for this week's edition of Trailer Talk Thursday. What do you think of these two movies? Are you looking forward to them? Do they interest you at all? Leave your thoughts in the comments below and I will see you all next week.
