Off With Their Heads-of-State! (Briefly) making the case for getting rid of the monarchy in Canada

I will not deny that I do love this hat, though.
Dan Gardner [EDIT: the man in question has pointed out that I have spelled his name wrong. My apologies.] has an article in the Ottawa Citizen about how former Governor General of Canada, Michaëlle Jean (*shock*) somehow tried to make herself the head of state by apparently not having enough pictured of QEII hanging up at her fancy house, Rideau Hall.

Just a few years ago, the Governor General's website was festooned with glorious colour photographs of Her Excellency the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean. But the Queen? There wasn't a single photograph of the Queen on the website of the Queen's representative. In fact, there were almost no references to the Queen at all, and one could easily get the impression that the esteemed Michaëlle Jean was, in all but name, Canada's head of state.
This leads our stalwart defender of the crown to conclude: "I cannot see how that can be read as anything but confirmation that the Governor General sees her role 'evolving' to become the actual head of state."

Yes. Michelle Jean was trying to orchestrate a coup.

Leaving aside the utter ridiculousness of this assertion (truly, the mind boggles, but I guess you don’t sell a lot of newspapers by making un-sensational claims), Gardner then proceeds to make the case for the monarchy in Canada:
