Site Name: The Movie Encyclopedia
Categories: Reviews
Rating: PG-13 (But since my blog titles focus on quotes sometimes there can be an R rated quote. But that's usually not the case)
What is the main focus of your site?
To give a new life to my high school nickname "The Movie Encyclopedia" by reviewing new and old films.
What are your blogging goals, personally and/or professionally? In other words, what, if anything, are you trying to get out your blog?
My site goal is to ultimately review every movie that I have ever seen in my life. I keep an extensive journal of every movie I see and have been collecting ticket stubs as long as I can remember. The list gets longer every day and I'm hoping this blog jumpstarts my career as a professional film critic. I want to be like Roger Ebert and Richard Roeper. I want to get paid to do what I am passionate about. I have grown up with films all my life and write and direct my own little short films now. I have over 10 years of theatre work both in front and behind the stage and with this site I'm hoping that my passion for film can be shared with the world. Whether I have one reader or a hundred readers it doesn't matter. I love movies and I love to write reviews FOR movies. I honestly could not imagine a life without movies as a critical part of my life. Hopefully my passion shows in my reviews.
Do you prefer an interactive community for your blog or are you the teacher and your readers are the students?
I love people, I'm a very social person. I want people to comment and tell me how I'm doing. I want my site to be very interactive. If you disagree with my review TELL ME. If you love it TELL ME. If you think I'm the worst person alive TELL ME. I want a wealth of ideas and ideals to be spread through my site. I even made a general comments section so that people can tell me if I'm doing good or not. I set up a Facebook fan page so that I can spread my news to everyone on Facebook. I also have all my status updates linked to Twitter. I want my site to be a starting point for many a conversation.
How long have you been movie blogging for, and how frequent do you post updates to your site?
I have been movie blogging off and on since 04. I started as The Movie Guy or the Movie Dude on Xanga writing reviews for the latest movie I saw. But after a while (about two months) I pretty much gave up until 06 when I joined MySpace. When I joined then I found a new found love for blogging and started posting assorted movie reviews every now and again. But after a while reviews and blogging in general faded out in favor of my acting/writing/directing career. But in late 08 that part of me died out and I joined a political blog site as a guest writer. From there I made my own Blogger page with the occasional review and then finally about 3 1/2-4 months ago I decided to take my high school nickname "The Movie Encyclopedia" (which I received for being a walking Fandango-Wikipedia hybrid) and started the blog that you see here. At first I only posted once a week (every Saturday) for about two months but then in October I decided to take my journal of all the movies I had ever seen and start reviewing those. From there my post updates went through the roof and NOW i post about 1-10 movie reviews A DAY. So very frequently. You will definitely need to check back multiple times a day.
Name up to three of your favorite movies (and no more).
The Hurt Locker
Shaun of the Dead
Fight Club
How did you hear about the LAMB?
My cousin Jimmy is a LAMMY award winning blogger and it was thanks to him that I discovered LAMB.
Any additional comments, or give yourself an interview question that's not listed above.
I just want everyone to know my policy on films that I review. I use a color coded system so that it is easy for people on the go who want to hear the ultimate bottom line on a film:
I have Top 20 (gold)
Own it (purple)
See it (green)
Rent it (blue)
Avoid it (orange)
Abomination to Cinema (red)
I also believe that every film should be given a fair chance and not judged by its cover, actors, genre or any of that. If a film is an abomination it is because it truly is a horrible movie from credit to credit.
