All the glamour! All the fashion! The 2008 LAMMY Awards, live on E!

(Pictured l-r: Fletch, WaywardJam, Catherine
Zeta-Jones, Nicole Kidman, Soundtrack Geek)

It was a night of fame and fortune as the 2008 LAMMYS were celebrated with a glitzy affair at the Large Ass Theater on Tuesday night. Bloggers and other celebrities from around the world came to honor sites such as Final Girl and Unheralded for their contributions to the blogosphere.

The remaining LAMMY winners had already left for the Premiere Magazine after party, but winners representing Blog Cabins, Reel Whore and Soundtrack Geek were on hand for some photo opportunities. Ace reporter Fox from Tractor Facts also broke a story on Blog Cabins about some footage of Fletch and Charlize Theron canoodling during the awards show. Neither Fletch nor Mrs. Fletch had any comment.

The winner of the 2008 LAMMY for Best Blog is...

It wasn't my intention to do what I've done just below. However, circumstances beyond my control have given me reason to think it necessary, or at least a good idea. Surely, there is the potential for someone to think "Hey, my best blogging buddy didn't vote for me!," though I certainly don't think there's much reason to (there's a lot of competition, after all).

Either way, below you will find the entire list of votes for best blog, complete with the voter's site. In case you're not up for manually counting, the summary is at the bottom as usual.

As would be expected, this was the most active category, with 80 total votes spread to 28 sites by 33 voters. The winner took the trophy while receiving a vote from 33.3% of the voters, the 6th highest percentage of all the categories.

(The Best Blog Runner-Up banner will be sent to Final Girl. Congratulations!)

Now, as you might imagine, I've had mixed feelings about being honored with this prize. Thus, the displaying of all of the votes above. I guess, in the end, that you have no one to blame but yourselves. ;) As is stands, I want to thank not only everyone that voted for me, but everyone that participated in the voting for the LAMMYS, period.

Here are some closing notes on the event:

I asked the voters what they thought of the number of awards. 67% thought that the number (14) was just right, 23% thought there were too many, and 8% felt there were not enough. I think that, should we have another LAMMYS in the future, I'll probably trim a few categories, but perhaps add some others. Here's a sampling of the opinions on what to ditch and/or what to add:

"I'd ditch the widgets one. But I'd add in something like "Funniest blog."" (Random Ramblings of a Demented Doorknob)

"Ditch Best use of widgetology and technology. Go with Best written review and funniest review." (1 Minute Film Review)

"Take out Best Impression of JD Salinger & Bob Dylan" (SizzlingPopcorn.com)

"Most Prolific and Best Impression of Bob Dylan are too similar, I think." (From the Front Row)

"Could lose the widget one and the alternative media and give awards for specific types of blogs. Best reviewer, Best writer, Best taste in movies" (Watch It)

"Add a category for Best Oscar Blog and Best Pen Name" (Spaghetti Sauce and Sweet Peas)

I also asked if you'd like to keep the voting process the same (where voters submit up to three sites per category) or if you'd rather see a nomination-style process like the Academy Awards. 69% said go with nominations, and with there looking to be at least twice as many of the 78 sites that were eligible this time around, I couldn't agree more.

Finally, I'll leave you with another question. I titled this event the 2008 LAMMYS. That said, would you rather see this as a yearly event, or as an every-six-months event? Maybe I'm just impatient...

The winner of the 2008 LAMMY for Best Design is...

Beauty may be in the eye of the beholder, but there's not much doubt about the winner of this category. News, reviews, video and more, all put together professionally made this a somewhat easy choice for the voters. This was the 5th most active category, with 69 total votes spread to 32 sites by 32 voters. The winner took the trophy while receiving a vote from 21.6% of the voters, the 13th highest percentage of all the categories.

The winner of the 2008 LAMMY for Best Running Feature is...

This got a bit tricky, as a faux pas by me (not separating the named feature as a required field) led to some voters not putting in the name of the feature they were voting for. However, the winner here was named on all ballots and is fully deserving. This was the 11th most active category, with 49 total votes spread to 21 sites by 27 voters. The winner took the trophy while receiving a vote from 29.6% of the voters, the 8th highest percentage of all the categories.

The winner of the 2008 LAMMY for Best Blog Name is...

What's in a name? Does it need to have "movie" or "film" in the title, all the better to be found on Google? Should it be funny? Does it do a good job of describing the writing that can be found at that URL? These must all be good questions, because it seems we all have quite a few different ideas about what makes a good name (34 sites received votes). This was the 2nd most active category, with 76 total votes spread to 34 sites by 32 voters. The winner took the trophy while receiving a vote from 25% of the voters, the 12th highest percentage of all the categories.

The winner of the 2008 LAMMY for Most Ambitious is...

If it seems I don't have as much to say about this category, well, that's by design. I left the criteria (not as though there's all that much for the other categories) open to your interpretation. Simply put, I asked "Who's shooting for the moon?" This was the 9th most active category, with 59 total votes spread to 27 sites by 29 voters. The winner took the trophy while receiving a vote from 31% of the voters, the 9th highest percentage of all the categories.

The winner of the 2008 LAMMY for Best Use of Widgetology is...

Polls. Pictures. Links. Advertisements. Celine Dion photos. Blog Archives. We all have widgets on our sites, but some get more mileage out of them than others, finding a way to incorporate them so that they enhance the experience rather than just being there. This was the 12th most active category, with 43 total votes spread to 20 sites by 23 voters. The winner took the trophy while receiving a vote from 34.8% of the voters, the 11th highest percentage of all the categories.

The winner of the 2008 LAMMY for Best Use of Technology (alternative media) is...

Some people use text only in their blog posts. Others pepper in pictures. Others make their own photos (like of cartoon lambs on statuettes) or use video or slide shows. The winner here is quite experienced at all of the above. This was the 14th most active category, with 39 total votes spread to 20 sites by 23 voters. The winner took the trophy while receiving a vote from 26.1% of the voters, the 11th highest percentage of all the categories.

The winner of the 2008 LAMMY for Most Likely to Get Paid is...

The LAMB's version of "Most Likely to Succeed," this award was almost a foregone conclusion, as I'm pretty sure that the winner is indeed already getting paid, so they were the odds-on favorite to win. This was the 4th most active category, with 71 total votes spread to 24 sites by 33 voters. The winner took the trophy while receiving a vote from 33.3% of the voters, the 6th (tie) highest percentage of all the categories.

This was the 8th most active category, with 60 total votes spread to 34 sites by 28 voters. The winner took the trophy while receiving a vote from 28.6% of the voters, the 10th highest percentage of all the categories.

The winner of the 2008 LAMMY for Best Random LAMB Banner is...

In case you're new here, scroll down just a little bit and look at the sidebar. You'll see a widget titled "Random LAMB." These are banners that the LAMB members have created to advertise their sites. The full gallery can be seen here. This was the 3rd most active category, with 73 total votes spread to 32 sites by 26 voters. The winner took the trophy while receiving a vote from 31.3% of the voters, the 8th highest percentage of all the categories. It was a tight race, and I think any of the top three (or four) would have been worth winners.

Your long national nightmare is over. It's time for the awards to commence!

As I mentioned yesterday, two awards will be given out each day for the next seven days, finishing up with the big kahuna (Best Blog) next Monday. The votes have been sent to the independent accounting firm and have been tabulated. Anyway, enough foreplay.

A few really quick notes on The LAMMYS

* First of all, with a little less than 10 hours left to vote, a big thanks to the 33 people that have voted thus far. I know it's a time consuming task, and I appreciate your effort. The voter turnout will just about match my expectations, which were admittedly high. Keep in mind that of the first 78 LAMBs, at least 3 sites are currently defunct, and a handful of others are live but totally inactive. So it's close to 50% turnout - awesome!

* After discussing options for the awards with the LAMB Consultant (namely, Mrs. Fletch), the unveiling will go like this: there are 14 awards - there will be two awards presented per day until next Monday, May 12th, when Best Blog will be the final award presented.

* At or after that time, I will email or post (possibly seperately) the award banners for the winning sites.

* That's all I got for now. Good luck to all of you.

Like sands...

Time is running out! Voting for the LAMMYS ends Monday night at midnight Pacific time. Please don't miss this chance to honor your peers (and maybe get honored yourself) as it won't come around again for awhile.

Here's the link: http://www.misterpoll.com/polls/335421

I promise to make no more than two or three more reminder posts about the LAMMY deadline. ;)

Also, the deadline for entries into the Summer of LAMB contest is Friday night at midnight Pacific. Additional details can be found here.

A LAMMYS Clarification

I've seen in a few peoples' LAMMY votes comments something about having to rush before the deadline and/or not being able to fully visit/judge the sites due to the deadline.

I'm not sure where the idea is coming from, but the deadline is not until next Monday, May 5th. So please, take your time - you've got a week!

Who will take it?

It's a tight race for Best Blog, with three or four horses running pretty close and 16 votes now in. Let's get that number up to at least 25 by the end of the weekend. If you haven't voted, what are you waiting for (besides having the time to inspect 75+ sites)?

The competition is heating up...

I should have waited for Mrs. Fletch's help on this, but she's busy working. As such, I used the twin designing powerhouses of PowerPoint and Paint to make this masterpiece. Maybe she'll make another later...

In the meantime, if you want to pimp your site and make one of these, go for it and I'll put it up (thanks to Mikey of Spaghetti Sauce and Sweet Peas for the inspiration). Let's have some fun with the LAMMYS. By the way: 9 voters have cast their ballots thus far. Some races appear over already; others are totally up in the air. I can't wait to see more results...
