The 3rd Annual LION Awards: The Five Worst Films of 2009

The results for Best and Worst of the Year are always the most interesting to me. However, it's not to see what made the top of each list, but to see the vast array of films that made each list in total, and more specifically, how just about every movie that might make the Top 10 best will also be reflected somewhere on the Five worst, and vice-versa. No matter how much any group of people might agree on a film or a set of films, there's sure to be another set in which they are completely at odds with each other. It is now time to reveal your choices for the Five Worst Films of 2009 (voting info can be found at the end):

There were 45 voters for this "award," and the results were tallied with the usual points scoring system used for the Top 10s done previously. First place votes (worst) in parenthesees:

5. Crank: High Voltage - 18 points (1)
4. G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra - 19 points (1)
3. New Moon - 23 points (2)
2. X-Men Origins: Wolverine - 25 points (2)
1. Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen - 45 points (5)

Other films receiving first-place votes: 2012, A Serious Man, Adventureland, Angels and Demons, Avatar, Blood: The Last Vampire , Bruno, Cheri, Disgraced, Dragonball Evolution, Extract, G-Force, Ghosts of Girlfriends Past, I Love You, Beth Cooper, Invictus, Miss March, My Bloody Valentine 3-D, My Life In Ruins, My Sister's Keeper, New York, I Love You, Nine, Ninja Assassin, Obsessed, Paranormal Activity (2), Paul Blart: Mall Cop, Street Fighter: Legend of Chun-Li, Terminator Salvation (2), The Hangover, The Last House on the Left, The Spirit, The Ugly Truth (2)

Next up... the final entry of the LIONSs, your Top 10 Films of 2009.

The 2nd Annual LION Awards...Worst Films of the Year

The votes have been cast, the independent accounting firm of Fletch & Fletch has been consulted, and the time has come for the LIONs to be handed out.

Our fifth "award" for presentation is for the Worst Films of the Year. There were a total of 50 voters, some who placed votes for five films, while others named just their top two or three stinkers. Here, we honor the top five vote-getters.

Counting down, from fifth to first (votes to follow):

5. 10,000 B.C. (18 points from 6 voters)
4. Jumper (19 points from 7 voters)
3. The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor (20 points from 5 voters)
2. The Love Guru (27 points from 8 voters)
1. The Happening (43 points from 14 voters)

The bonus award for Best Out-there Vote is split amongst two voters: Dreamrot of $7 Popcorn and Scott of Mendelson's Memos each put in a vote for The Dark Knight as their worst film of the year. Really, guys - worst of the year? (It should be noted that Scott also voted for The Dark Knight as his second-best film of the year. Hmmmm.)

Next up...Best Actress. Stay tuned to the LAMB for more of the LIONs, culminating with our Top 10 Films of 2008.
