BEST FOR FILM LAUNCHES CHRISTMAS WRITING COMPETITION
Calling all LAMBS! We want to read your film reviews! Say you're a LAMB blogger when entering this competition and we'll make sure your posted entry has a link to your blog! And if you spread the word, we'll be honoured and grateful.
Looking for a creative project over the festive season? Film website bestforfilm.com is excited to announce the launch of Write Christmas; a yuletide writing competition with a once in a lifetime first prize. Read on for more details…
THE COMPETITION
http://bestforfilm.com/community/write-christmas-competition/
The concept of Write Christmas is simple – to write a film review of the greatest Christmas film never made. With Hollywood churning out the same old Christmas tat every year, it’s difficult to see how we’ll ever get a truly brilliant NEW Christmas story on our screens. Best For Film are looking for fantastic writers to review the NEXT greatest, most ridiculous, potentially iconic Christmas film – the fact that it doesn’t actually exist yet is merely a quibble.
THE JUDGES
Our panel of esteemed judges includes:
LARUSHKA IVAN-ZADEH – Film editor of The Metro (3.5 million readers every weekday)
EMMA KENNEDY – actress (Notes on a Scandal), author, film critic for the Danny Baker show
CLEOLINDA JONES – parody film critic, author, blogger
THE PRIZES
First Prize:
- A real-life A1 poster of your made-up movie as imagined by OTM Entertain, the world-famous design team team that brought you the posters for The Hurt Locker, In The Loop, Splice and The Losers. Blimey!
- One hundred pounds to spend as you deem fit
- Publication on bestforfilm.com
Two runners up will receive:
- fifty pounds each
- Publication on bestforfilm.com
THE DETAILS
You have until the 24th December to enter, by emailing your glorious review to info@bestforfilm.com, with “Write Christmas” in the subject line.
Interested? Learn more about the judging details on the official website –
http://bestforfilm.com/community/write-christmas-competition/
So, from a sombre review of Tim Burton’s unmade fantasy “Twas the Cheekbone before Christmas” to a brilliant write-up of Michael Bay’s never made classic “When Santa Exploded” – Best For Film wants to read the review of the best Christmas film we’ll never get to see. You’ve got until the 24th to get scribbling – the same deadline as Santa! How could it be any other way…
For more information and images please contact Magda Knight at info@bestforfilm.com

PLUG: Common Sense Movie Reviews
November 26th - January 1st
Last year I decided to be a Scrooge and not watch any Christmas themed films and therefore deemed it to be a holiday season full of Hammer Horror, I thoroughly enjoyed it and got a nice response from some of my fellow Hammer fans so this year I'm bringing it back... with a twist. In an attempt to not exclude the tastes of everyone this years Hammer Holiday Marathon will span the entire Hammer catalog with reviews of two films from each decade of the film company's existence during the periods of the 1930's - 1970's. So we should have a nice mixture of thrillers, horrors and noir. Below are the ten films I'll be reviewing in the order I'll be reviewing them, no particular reason for the choices they're simply a selection of Hammer films I've been meaning to watch. Also look for more editions of the Women of Hammer feature and a few other special bonus reviews of Hammer related goodness.
Phantom Ship 'The Mystery of the Mary Celeste' (1935)
Song of Freedom (1936)
Dick Barton, Special Agent (1947)
The Man in Black (1949)
Bad Blonde (1953)
The Quatermass Xperiment (1955)
Sword of Sherwood Forest (1960)
The Gorgon (1963)
Creatures the World Forgot (1970)
Fear in the Night (1972)

PLUG: The Movie Blogger Survey
Film lovers,
Many of your fellow bloggers have already promoted the “Movie Blogger Survey” by adding a dedicated post on their blogs and will be receiving their free DVD very shortly.
Surprisingly enough, the film most bloggers have chosen from our DVD selection is Federico Fellini’s classic ‘La Dolce Vita’ with Christopher Nolan’s ‘Inception’ close behind in second place. (full selection on our site)
Fandango Groovers & Bitchin Film Reviews are battling it out for the highest follower participation at the moment and are off to a good start to win the Samsung BD-C5500 Blu-ray Player.
But “it ain’t over until the fat lady sings” and you still have plenty of time to participate!
So, if you would also like to receive your free DVD and a chance to win the Blu-ray Player by simply writing about the survey, visit our page for all the info you need: The Movie Blogger Survey.
We hope to hear from you very soon.

PLUG: Where Danger Lives
Over the next few months on the Where Danger Lives blog, I¹ll be counting
down the 100 greatest posters of film noir. The posters are being considered
on the basis of their artistic merit, concept, memorability, and so forth
‹ not on the quality of the films they represent. For example, the poster
for Double Indemnity, possibly the most iconic and well-known film noir,
didn't make the list. Stop by the blog each week and see what did. Each
poster comes with a brief explanation about why it was included, along with
a hi-res image for download. This is a brand new feature at WDL, and
hopefully one that will be of interest to a broader audience. In the "real
world" I'm a college graphic design professor and a long-time professional
designer, so this feature gives me a chance to mix work and play in an
interesting, and hopefully fun / educational way. The countdown begins on
Black (<--Noir!) Friday, but there's a post up now featuring ten posters
that didn't make the list ‹ and why.

PLUG: Phil on Film
At the end of this year, Phil on Film will be running a series of articles covering the best films of the 1990's. I'll be listing my top 50 pictures of the decade, but I'll also be running my first ever readers' poll to list their favourites alongside my own. All are welcome to submit their top 10 lists to me at philipconcannon@gmail.com and if you'd like to add some thoughts or commentary on your choices, please feel free to do so, as I might try to work contributors' comments into the final feature. I'll be accepting lists until December 10th and you can read all of the details here:
http://www.philonfilm.net/2010/11/reviewing-90s-introduction.html
This is the most ambitious project I have attempted since I began Phil on Film and I'd appreciate the support of the LAMB. If you know of anyone else who'd like to get involved, please feel free to send my details on to them.
Thanks,
Phil

PLUG: Final Cut
I'm starting a new feature on my blog that I'm keen for people to get involved with: Battle of the Sexes.
That's a working title... Basically, I want to start a new feature based on the differing views of men and women regarding certain types of films. Audiences are far too easily pigeonholed and a lot of films don't get the kind of viewing figures they deserve because of the assumptions people make about them based on the genre. My 19-year-old, semi-macho brother has a particular fondness for the likes of Bring It On, Get Over It and 10 Things I Hate About You, despite citing Coach Carter, Green Street and The Lord of the Rings Trilogy as some of his favourite films. And a guy I'm kinda dating at the moment (who did not appreciate being made to watch 10 Things the other night...), despite being a bit of a sci-fi and quirky comedy fan, loves Amelie, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Lost in Translation - not necessarily girly films but the kind of films that, when you describe them to non-fans, sound almost chick-flicky.
With that in mind, I want to discuss typically female and male films from both perspectives. I want readers to suggest a typically blokey or girly film that we can debate (I'm taking suggestions from female followers too - I don't just want my opinion thrown in here). For each title (I'm thinking one a week) I want to focus on one male and one female opinion, maybe throw in a few review links (to get an idea of how the films have been marketed and reviewed by big name critics) and then let the battle commence in the comments section. If any LAMBS who aren't currently followers of Final Cut fancy getting involved, they can email me (e.farley27@gmail.com) with Final Cut in the subject. Just suggest a title and a couple of basic points (don't email me an entire post in case someone else wants the title too) and I'll get back to you. Hopefully within a week or two we can get a few posts queued up. I'll kick things off next week with my thoughts on my former favourite film of all time: Breakfast At Tiffany's. If any of you guys reading want to provide a male perspective, drop me an email.
Thanks,
Emma aka Filmgeek

PLUG: The Peoples Movies Blog & Cinehouse
Hello fellow LAMBers!
Paul from The Peoples Movies & cinehouseblogs here, apologies the past month or so i haven't been involved with LAMB as much as i wanted to. I was recently on this site asking for help with reviews. I'm based in UK (well Scotland actually) and I receive a lot of free screeners (last night was The Next Three Days, recent other screeners The Girl Who Played With Fire, Buried, Jackboots on Whitehall, The Last Exorcism, Despicable Me, Back to the Future) but the screeners are in London but I'm 600 miles north in NEAR Glasgow. So the reason Ive contacted LAMB again is to give any possible UK based LAMB members who can get to London or live in London area and would be able to go watch the movie and in return review it for my blog and 24 hours plus later you would be welcomed to have the review on your own site, so it's killing two birds with one stone. The reason I'm offering fellow UK bloggers a chance is to help out the guys who do help me, as they're unable to attend every screener so I dont want the free passes to go to waste.
I do get numerous reviews there maybe even some DVD reviews available as well so if your interested please email me at thepeoplesmovies@gmail.com and I can run over anything with you, there's no catch just a chance to watch some movies to review for me then for your own site.
Cheers!
Paul

PLUG: Cold Fusion Video Reviews
Every year, Cold Fusion Video Reviews has dedicated October as Month of the Living Dead, with reviews of two zombie movies every week. (Yes, I know, some people have a new review every day, but my reviews are frickin' long -- and anyway, how many Romero ripoffs can one man stand in close succession?) In fact, this year's installment is Month of the Living Dead 10! Ten years, I've been wasting my life at this!

PRESS RELEASE: A Most Generous Spirit
To The Lamb,
I am a a part of a team working on this documentary and we would absolutely appreciate if you could promote this film on your blog. Thanks!
Charles Burnett, the talented documentary film director ("Killer of Sheep") has a new documentary that centers on the late Stanley Ann Dunham, President Barack Obama's mother. Dunham was not only the mother of the 44th President of the Free World, she was the pioneer of micro-financing. She practiced most of her life's work in Southeast Asia. Burnett and his production team (Carolyn Schroeder and Greg Ptacek are in the producers seats) are currently in the early developmental stage and raising money on Indieagogo.com so production can begin. This link is to the trailer they have created to help spread the word about the noble Dunham and her upcoming biographical documentary:

PLUG: The Lightning Bug's Lair
Hello folks. Now that October is here; it's time to start planning Halloween festivities. For me, that means planning for the 3rd Annual Halloween Top 13. As usual I will be counting down thirteen of my favorite scary gems starting October 19th and running right through to the big day. This year I'm turning an eye to the absolute scariest thing for a horror fan, a remake. Call them reimaginings if you will, but we all know what they are and how much we dread hearing the newest cinematic victim announced. However there are more than a few gems in the rough, and my task is to count them down in Halloween Top 13: The Remake! But I don't want to have all the fun.....
As with every year of the Halloween Top 13, I like get as many readers and fellow bloogers in on it as I can. So each day along with my countdown post, I want to include someone else's remakes list. You can feel free to single out as many or as few as you'd like (13 is quite a task for those daring enough), choose to elaborate or mearly enumerate, but no matter how many I get I promise to publish them all. If you have a website or link you'd like to include, please attach it with the list. Mail all your Halloween Top 13: The Remake lists to thelightningbug@charter.net or check out The Lair for more details on how you can help remake The Halloween Top 13 bigger, stronger, and scarier than ever!
