PLUG: 1001Plus

Nothing too terribly exciting, but I’d love to get some other opinions into the mix on this. As I have gotten further into reviewing the films on the 1001 Movies You Must See Before You Die list, I discovered that five great science-fiction/horror films were released in the same month in 1982—Poltergeist, Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, The Thing, and Blade Runner. All five were released between June 4 and June 25 of that year. I hold that this is the greatest month in American movie history, at least before stacking the deck in December became the way of things.

YAM Magazine is looking for a writer (or writers) located in the NYC area to attend some screenings and writer reviews for us.

This time around there's an advance screening for Takeshi Miike's 13 Assassins, one on February 28th, the other on March 8th. We'd like to have someone in either of those.

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW W/ 'FIGHT THE FOOT' DIRECTOR RICHARD KRAUSE

The mastermind behind the latest fan film sensation, 'Fight the Foot' has been revealed! Richard Krause, a motion graphics designer and director, is the latest guest to join us at the Strange Kids Club where he reveals some of the backstory and behind-the-scenes photos of his impressive fan letter to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle franchise.

"The short is a tease for what I picture a feature-length TMNT movie could be. I don’t want to go into too many details, but in the short film’s time period; Shredder is an unknown, Splinter is still training the Turtles, and the Turtles are not known about," says Krause. "However, the street gang The Foot starts causing problems for April, and Raphael feels it’s necessary to step forward to protect April, whether or not the Turtles will be understood."

Krause goes on to reveal how he got started in filmmaking, what tools he used to create the short, and whether or not he plans on licensing the film. The full interview is available now at www.strangekidsclub.com/?p=3116.

PLUG: Movies and Other Things

I'd like everyone here to know that I'm allowing everyone to throw me For Your Consideration "ads" for the upcoming Razzie ceremony. I've seen lots of movies this year. Many were terrific, and many were awful, but I can't help but feel that I haven't seen all of the horrible movies that deserve some Razzie attention.

PLUG: Marshall and the Movies

Hello fellow moviegoers!

It's a new year, and most people have resolutions. One of my primary ones is to enhance my connection with the community of moviegoers with my Facebook page. It provides a great medium to share opinions and interact together, be you a movie blogger or a casual Netflix surfer.

What better way to get the community motivated than through a contest? For the first two weeks of January, to get the page running at full speed and to encourage participation, fans will have the opportunity to win "The Social Network" on DVD or digital download.

But Rome wasn't built in a day, and I'm going to start simple to engage the community. The contest is going to try to breathe some life into the discussion boards here on the Facebook page.

PLUG: Flickering Myth

To commemorate the return of Peter Weir to the big screen, Trevor Hogg of Flickering Myth has put together a two-week retrospective honouring the man and his work. We will begin with his feature debut The Cars That Ate Paris (1974) and conclude with the acclaimed director’s latest offering The Way Back. Providing an extra dimension of understanding of the filmmaker and his movies are two of Weir’s frequent collaborators; both Oscar-winning cinematographer Russell Boyd and two-time Academy Award-nominated film editor Lee Smith agreed to be interview about their fellow countryman; their insights have been divided into a series of articles which will be dispersed throughout the blogathon. We are also looking to include a section linking to external articles on Peter Weir and his body of work – if you have written an article and would like to see it included please contact us at flickeringmyth@gmail.com.
